Ten Russian diplomats forced to leave Hungary

Ten employees at the Russian embassy in Budapest have been told to leave the country, writes Hungarian Foreign Minister Anita Orbán.

The authorities fear that the diplomats "engaged in activities" that violate the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, but do not go into what the allegations are about.

At the same time, Orbán believes that the talks about cutting diplomatic ties are not complete.

"Hungary intends to continue the necessary dialogue, based on mutual respect and compliance with the rules," she writes.

Russia promises Hungary a "painful response"

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova promises retaliatory measures after Hungary expelled ten Russian diplomats, AFP reports.

- The Russophobic lobbyists in Budapest will receive a sharp and painful response, she tells the state news agency Tass.

Hungarian Foreign Minister Anita Orbán writes on X that the diplomats have engaged in activities that violate the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations. She does not go into details.

"This decision protects Hungary's security and sovereignty," she continues.
