Morocco's role in Ceuta to be investigated by Spanish judge
Spain's special court, the Audiencia Nacional, is opening a criminal investigation into the influx of tens of thousands of migrants into the Spanish exclave of Ceuta this summer.
In a written statement, investigating judge María Tardón wrote that there is moving image evidence that supports suspicions of a coordinated "attack against the Spanish state" by Moroccan security forces.
"Uniformed police officers (from Morocco) gave instructions to people who illegally crossed the border," the judge wrote, El País reports.
Tardón describes the "massive" influx of migrants as "hybrid warfare" whose "aim was to affect the lives and rights of Spanish citizens" and "destabilize national security."
Over 70,000 irregular migrants crossed the border from Morocco to Ceuta on July 30 and 31 this year.
