Trump's USA

Midterm elections in the US
Republicans see Trump as a sinking factor in the midterm elections

Several top Republicans worry that Donald Trump is damaging their chances in the midterm elections when he brushes aside voters' concerns about the Iran war, high living costs and data centres, while stealing the focus of the election campaign. This is reported by the Financial Times.

Trump will try to calm internal tensions during a two-day party convention in Dallas this week, but many Republicans plan to stay home for fear of being associated with him.

- Party members go home to their districts every week and are met with concerns about the cost of living and inflation, and then those concerns are openly dismissed by Trump. It cannot continue like this, says party strategist Kevin Madden.

According to a recent opinion poll from the FT, voter support for Trump has fallen to 33 percent, the lowest level ever.

The President's New Construction
Trump's Refuge During the War: The Construction Projects

While the Iran War continues with no end in sight, Donald Trump finds solace and distraction in his old favorite pastime: construction projects. That's what Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick says, according to the New York Times.

- He loves to build, it's what he enjoys. So at eleven o'clock at night he calls me and wants to talk about his construction projects, because he thinks it's fun.

Everyone else asks him about Iran and "this and that," the minister continues:

- And the only thing he likes to do during the weeks is build.

The president is involved at a detailed level in the half-dozen construction and renovation projects he has started in Washington DC, including the ballroom, the triumphal arch and the Kennedy Center.

In an interview with New York Magazine this week, he confirmed that he is building them as monuments to himself.

- That's true. No one will do it when I'm gone.
