Hundred police cars at German forest
The hunt for Daniel V continues.
Around 100 police patrols are on site at a forest in Germany.
The 48-year-old is believed to be behind several sabotage attempts against the German electricity grid.
German police say they have received several tips after they released a picture of the man suspected of sabotage attempts against several German transformer stations on Saturday.
A major police operation is now underway at the Hambach Forest in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, reports Bild.
The hunt for the perpetrator has been ongoing since the police received a letter earlier this week in which he claimed responsibility for the attacks.
“Daniel V” signed the letter with his own first and last name – and explained that the reason for the attacks is that “fossil fuels are a crime that causes endless suffering”.
Believed to have made his way by bicycle
Since the state does not intervene “I have to do it”, he continued.
On Friday, the police stormed the man’s house in Gevelsberg in North Rhine-Westphalia and found explosives.
Later that day, they also raided his mobile home.
Daniel V has still not been found.
– According to current information, the suspect may be riding a Trenoli bicycle, a spokesman for the Cologne police told Bild.
The sabotage attempts have been made in North Rhine-Westphalia, Brandenburg and Saxony.
All are states where the fossil fuel lignite is mined and used for electricity production, according to Bild.
The damage to the transformer stations has been limited and no major power outages have been reported.
