China's global ambitions
Alarm: EU could lose 300,000 factory jobs this year

The EU could lose 300,000 manufacturing jobs this year alone if Brussels continues to allow Chinese component manufacturers to "colonize" the industry, the trade association Eurometal warns, according to The Guardian.

On Monday, Eurometal plans to line up ten coffins, with inscriptions such as "EU competitiveness", "industrial jobs" and "European factories", outside the EU Commission headquarters in Brussels in a symbolic protest.

China's goals are fully disclosed in their five-year plan, says Eurometal CEO Alexander Julius.

- China does not want to be a supplier of raw materials, they want to be a supplier of finished products. They want to become part of important supply chains, because they know that when they control the supply chain, they own the entire value chain.

The EU's trade deficit with China is currently the equivalent of over eleven billion kronor per day - a record high figure.

Volkswagen crisis
Analyst: I'm not kidding - without the EU it's over

Europe's largest company Volkswagen has taken the historic decision to lay off a total of 100,000 employees. The giant is forced to adapt to a new reality with fierce competition from Chinese electric car manufacturers.

Several analysts believe that the savings are welcome, writes Dagens Industri. At the same time, it remains absolutely crucial that the EU acts with tariffs against China to support its own companies, says Citi's automotive analyst Harald Hendrikse.

- Without such protection, German car production will cease. I'm really not kidding, he says.

Volkswagen announced in March that 50,000 will be allowed to leave the company. On Thursday, the savings package was expanded with a further 5,000 jobs.

Tariff crisis  Trump's tariff policy
Electricity is Canada's weapon in the trade war with the United States

Electricity and critical minerals have become Canada's weapons in the trade war with the United States, reports Politico.

On Sunday, Energy Minister Tim Hodgson wrapped up a tour of the new mines and power projects Canada is building in response to Trump's economic aggression. Among them is a plan to double British Columbia's power capacity by 2032 to power new mineral mines near Alaska and gas exports to Asia.

Hodgson says he dreams of being able to feed the United States if they come asking for Canadian power.

- Nothing would make me happier than just being able to say: "You know what, we're going to use all our power here. We have new mines and plants to build."

Regardless of what Trump says, the United States needs Canadian imports a lot. By 2025, 80 percent of imported electricity will come from
