Egyptian TV personality sentenced to death in major drug ring

Egyptian TV personality Sarah Khalifa has been sentenced to death along with 11 others, writes the BBC. The 39-year-old is convicted of being part of a large smuggling network.

Khalifa, who is a well-known presenter of the national TV program "Mission Impossible" and is followed by millions on social media, was convicted despite her denials of being involved in the smuggling of 750 kilograms of drugs.

A total of 27 people have been charged with the crime, of whom nine have received life sentences and seven have been acquitted.

Amnesty International has sounded the alarm that 492 death sentences have been handed down so far this year, of which 23 have been carried out.

The US sank several alleged "drug boats" in the Pacific

The US military has blown up a group of boats in the Pacific Ocean that are said to be used as a refueling station for drug smugglers. The military command Southcom writes in a statement on X.

According to the authority, there were intelligence reports that the boats were used by the criminal organization Los Choneros.

Several people are said to have been taken from the boats and taken to Ecuador.

In the past year, the US has sunk several boats in the Pacific Ocean that are said to be used to smuggle drugs. The raids have been heavily criticized as experts believe that the military may put innocent people at risk.

A cargo plane belonging to Amazon has driven off the runway at Miami International Airport in the USA, American media reports.

Pictures show how the Boeing 767 plane lies over a roadway. Open flames and thick black smoke rise from the fuselage of the aircraft.

The plane collided with several vehicles, according to the local emergency services, which state that “several patients” are being treated. Their injuries are unclear.

Queen Margrethe hospitalized – misses Harald’s funeral

Denmark’s abdicated Queen Margrethe has been hospitalized, the royal house announced according to Danish media. The 86-year-old is being treated for a new blood clot in her hip and mild dehydration.

“Queen Margrethe is in good spirits and is doing well under the circumstances,” the Danish court writes.

The announcement means that she will not attend the funeral of Norway's King Harald in Oslo on Wednesday.
