The Supreme Court of the United States revokes the national abortion law Roe v.

Wade in the United States.

The historic decision was made on Friday. Shortly after the announcement, the states of Missouri, Louisiana and South Dakota announced that they were banning abortion.

The Supreme Court revokes the national abortion guarantee Roe v. Wade(Roe mot Wade). The decision was made on Friday and means that the individual states can decide on the right to abortion.

Shortly after the decision, Missouri became the first state in the country to ban abortion. The states of Louisiana and South Dakota also made the same decision shortly after the announcement.

A total of 13 states already have laws in place which means that abortion will be banned within the next month.

According to the news agency AP, a ban on abortion is expected to be introduced in about half of the states in the United States.

Six to three

Six of the judges voted to tear up the law and three voted against, writes AP.

"Roe was wrong from the start. The reasoning was exceptionally weak and the decision has had harmful consequences, "writes judge Samuel Alito, who voted to abolish the law, in his statement according to the channel.

Judges Stephen Breyer, Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan expressed their dissatisfaction with the announcement in a joint statement.

"With grief - for this court, but even more so for the many millions of American women who today have lost basic constitutional protection - we disagree," they write.

Already in May, documents were leaked that revealed that a majority of the judges in the Supreme Court were prepared to tear up Roe against Wade.

According to CNN, demonstrations are taking place outside the Supreme Court as a result of Friday's announcement.

Gets sharp criticism

Former President Barack Obama has criticized the decision on Twitter.

"Today, the Supreme Court has not only changed almost 50 years of precedent, it has banished the most personal decision anyone can make to politicians and ideologues - it has attacked the freedom of millions of Americans," he writes.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Democrat Nancy Pelosi, is also adamant about the decision.

- What this means for women is such an insult. It is a slap in the face to women who use their own judgment to make their own decisions about their reproductive freedom, she says at a press conference.
