G20 meeting in New Delhi
Analysis: G20 boycott may be part of larger plan
The fact that Chinese President Xi Jinping is boycotting a G20 meeting for the first time is interpreted by many diplomats as China closing itself off from the West and its allies. This is written by Martin Quin Pollard, Laurie Chen and Yew Lun Tian for Reuters.
"China has a strained relationship with host India, which analysts say may be a factor, but overall Xi's international travel has been significantly reduced this year and confined to countries Beijing sees as friendly."
In light of China's power struggle with the United States, the boycott can be seen as a sign of Xi's dissatisfaction with the prevailing world order, and global structures that he sees as too US-controlled, writes Nectar Gan for CNN.
"Instead, Xi may prioritize multilateral forums that fit with China's own vision of how the world should be governed, such as the recently concluded Brics summit and the upcoming 'One Belt, One Road' forum."

G20 meeting in New Delhi
Friendly between Biden and Modi during the Xi-boycotted G20
On
Friday, US President Joe Biden arrived at the G20 meeting in New Delhi,
where he met Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi after a grand welcome
ceremony, AP writes.
Afterwards,
Biden's adviser Kurt Campbell said that the relationship between the
countries is now very good after previously being characterized by
uncertainty and mistrust.
- What I have seen gradually emerge is unequivocal warmth and trust between the two leaders.
Among
other things, they took the opportunity to dissolve the last trade link
between the countries, which concerned the import of poultry meat. According to the White House, it paves the way for "a new chapter of bilateral cooperation", writes AFP.
However,
the main focus ahead of the meeting has been on the fact that Chinese
Prime Minister Xi Jinping is boycotting it for the first time -
something that, according to several analysts, could damage the status
of the G20
