Pence's boot against Trump: "The siren song of the populists"
Republicans are faced with a choice - either to return to their former conservative principles, or to join the populist phalanx that has begun to emerge within the party. That was the message from Mike Pence, former vice president who now aspires to the presidential candidacy, during a campaign speech in New Hampshire on Wednesday.
He called on the party to resist "the siren song of populism" and took the opportunity to give his former boss, Donald Trump, a boot for abandoning the old conservative agenda, several American media noted.
- Should this new right-wing populism take over and rule our party, the party we have come to know and live with will cease to exist and freedom in America will be threatened, he said among other things.

Georgia anticipates Trump trial for four months
A trial against former President Donald Trump and the 18 others suspected of influencing Georgia's 2020 election is likely to last four months and include over 150 witnesses. That calculation is made by the state's attorney's office, writes the Washington Post.
But before any court proceedings can begin, a jury must be selected. District Attorney Fani Willis has requested that the court seal the identities of the jurors. This after the jurors who decided to indict Trump were hanged online, reports CNN.

Majority believe Biden was involved in Hunter's affairs
A
majority of American voters believe that Joe Biden, during his time as
vice president, was involved in the affairs of son Hunter Biden. This is evident from an opinion poll conducted by CNN.
61 percent of respondents believe that Biden had at least a small hand in Hunter Biden's business. 42
percent of them believe that he also acted criminally, while 18 percent
believe that his actions were unethical but not criminal.
Only 1 percent believe that Biden was involved, but that he did nothing wrong.
The
investigation was conducted before yesterday's announcement that
special prosecutor David Weiss intends to try to indict Hunter Biden on
gun charges within the next few weeks.

Biden wants to ban oil drilling in parts of Alaska
Washington is on the verge of ending contentious oil and natural gas extraction contracts in an Alaskan preserve. This is reported by several media.
The
contracts were given the green light during former President Donald
Trump's last days in power, but were paused six months after Biden took
office, writes the Financial Times.
According
to the Washington Post, the ban applies to about 10 million acres, but
will not affect Conoco Phillips' Willow project. A project that Biden already gave the thumbs up to last year.
