Mali's Foreign Minister Abdoulaye Diop says that the UN forces in the northern parts of the country must leave the country, as planned, by December 31 at the latest, writes AFP.
The statement comes after the United Nations on Saturday expressed concern over flaring violence in the region and questioned whether the timetable can be met. Among other things, the military junta has not confirmed that the UN is allowed to take its equipment out of the region.
According to AFP, Mali's military junta is to send additional troops and Russian mercenaries to the area where government forces are fighting both separatists and Islamists with links to al-Qaeda.

After a wave of military coups in the Sahel region of Africa, the new military leaders of several countries are under severe pressure. That's what Deutsche Welle writes.
The military leaders in Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger have had difficulty dealing with the terrorist groups operating in the area, and now the popular support they enjoyed in some camps shortly after the coups may be about to end, according to the newspaper.
- I have not seen any improvement anywhere since the military took over. On the contrary: the security situation is deteriorating in Mali, Niger and Burkina Faso, human rights activist Moussa Tchangari told DW.
