Top Republican to attack Gaetz: "Created chaos"
Several
Republicans are worried about how the internal phalanx battle, which
resulted in the impeachment of Speaker Kevin McCarthy, will affect the
party ahead of the 2024 election. The Hill reports.
Several attack Matt Gaetz, who led the process to have him removed, and the seven party colleagues who helped vote McCarthy out. Texas Senator John Cornyn feels that the party is being radicalized.
- These rioters have no plan and now they have created more chaos. It's not good for the House of Representatives, it's not good for the Republicans and they have no clear path forward.
The part of the party that voted McCarthy out was, among other things, critical of his budget negotiations with the Democrats.

The chamber is "paralyzed" - the search for a replacement begins
The work in the US House of Representatives is adjourned for the rest of the week after Speaker Kevin McCarthy was voted out, reports the New York Times. The newspaper writes that the chamber "is paralyzed" until a replacement is found.
The process of voting in a new Speaker can be messy. Congress has just over a month to prevent another possible shutdown of the US government apparatus. The temporary budget McCarthy helped negotiate runs through Nov. 17, according to the AP.
CNN writes that there are several names within the Republicans who are considering running for the post of Speaker. McCarthy states that he "could" lend his support to his successor. He has given no word on whether he will remain in Congress.
McCarthy not running again: "Leaving with pride"
Petade Kevin McCarthy will not run for speaker of the US House of Representatives again, US media write.
- I am leaving the Speaker's post with a sense of pride, he says according to NPR.
The Republican politician adds that he does not regret his negotiations with the Democrats, because the political system is built "to look for compromises". He was forced out of office after eight party colleagues turned their backs on him, largely because he negotiated the budget with the Democrats.
It is the first time a speaker has been removed in the 240-year history of the House of Representatives, writes the Washington Post. Politico describes it as a "devastating end" for McCarthy.
Now the work begins to produce a new chairman. NPR notes that the big question is whether anyone can muster the necessary votes.
