Myanmar's military rule denies involvement in the attack on a refugee camp that is believed to have killed at least 29 people and injured 56, according to Reuters. 

 

- We always take care of the peace at the border, says the junta's spokesperson Zaw Min Tun to the local newspaper People Media.  

 

The Kachin Liberation Army guerrilla movement, which controls the area where the refugee camp is located, has singled out the military junta as responsible for the attack. Last year, fifty people were killed when the military attacked a festival in the region in a similar attack. 

 

- I would say that this is an act of genocide against our ethnic group, says Naw Bu, an officer in the Kachin Liberation Army to the New York Times.

29 people have been killed in an attack on a refugee camp in a guerrilla-controlled area of northern Myanmar. This is stated by a spokesperson for the guerrilla group Kachin's freedom army according to TT. 

 

The group has been at odds with the country's government for decades, a conflict that escalated after a military junta retook power in 2021. 

 

The attack has not been confirmed by the government side.
