Iran has moved the Alborz warship to the Red Sea after recent tensions, reports AFP.
The Red Sea has recently been the subject of attacks on merchant ships by Iran-backed Huthi rebels based in Yemen. Yesterday, US helicopters sank three small boats belonging to the Huthi rebels after they attacked a Danish container ship. All aboard the sunken boats are said to have been killed.
Iranian ships have been active in the area since 2009. Iran has given no official explanation as to why the Albroz entered the Red Sea.
British Foreign Secretary David Cameron said on Sunday he had spoken with his Iranian counterpart Hossein Amir-Abdollahian about the tensions in the Red Sea.
"I made it clear to him that Iran shares responsibility for ending the attacks given their support for the Houthis," Cameron wrote on social media.

Britain: Ready for battle against the Houthis
Britain is ready to fight to stop Yemeni Huthi militia attacks on ships in the Red Sea, British Defense Secretary Grant Shapps writes in the Telegraph:
"The Houthis must get this straight: we are determined to hold malicious actors accountable for unlawful hijackings and attacks."
Shapps also warns that the fighting in the area risks escalating into a major regional conflict.
Yesterday, the US sank three boats in the Red Sea. On board were Huthir rebels who were about to board the ship Mærsk Hangzhou.
The incident is the latest in a series of confrontations in the Red Sea that are raising fears of a regional conflict. The Iran-backed Houthi militia has carried out attacks on ships in the vital shipping lane to show its support for the terror group Hamas in the war against Israel.
