Drought in Catalonia leads to ban on car washes
Residents of Catalonia in northeastern Spain are prohibited from washing their cars and watering the garden, several media reports. This after a state of emergency was issued due to drought.
The water reservoirs are only filled to 16 percent of their capacity and the state of emergency begins on Friday. It affects about six million people.
At a press conference, Catalan President Pere Aragones says that the drought will be "overcome".
- But we are in a new climate reality, where it is more likely that there will be new droughts, and that they will become more intense.

Confirmed: 48.8 degrees, Europe's new heat record
A new heat record has been confirmed in Europe. The temperature of 48.8 degrees was measured in Sicily in 2021. The record has now been confirmed by the UN weather agency WMO.
The temperature was not measured by Italy's official weather service, which has meant that the announcement of the new temperature record has been delayed, writes TT.
