New German mass protests against the far-right AFD
Large protests have been held against right-wing extremism throughout Germany on Saturday, German media reports. In Berlin, it is estimated that at least 150,000 people demonstrated, which is far more than the organizer had thought.
The background to the demonstrations is information that high-ranking politicians in the far-right party AFD met with other right-wing extremists and business leaders and discussed what a possible forced deportation of millions of Germans with a foreign background could look like.
The data has caused great dissatisfaction and demonstrations have been held for three weekends in a row.

Former intelligence chief is being investigated for right-wing extremism
Germany's former intelligence chief Hans-Georg Maassen is being investigated for right-wing extremism, several media reports.
Maassen himself confirms that the intelligence service BfV, of which he was formerly head, has him under observation for right-wing radical views. He accuses Interior Minister Nancy Faeser of using the BfV to hunt down political opponents.
Hans-Georg Maassen was forced to leave his post in 2018 due to heavily criticized comments about immigrants. Since then, he has expressed political ambitions and become increasingly extreme in his statements. Among other things, he has compared immigration to cancer and said that Germany needs to undergo a "cytotoxin treatment", writes the BBC.
According to the BfV, Maassen has expressed sympathy for the far-right Reichsbürger movement. In 2022, several of its sympathizers were arrested on suspicion of plotting a coup d'état.
