Analysis: A political soup that makes everyone a loser
There are only losers after the soup in the British Parliament, writes Sky News political commentator Beth Rigby in an analysis.
Demands for resignation are heard against the speaker who allowed a vote on an "immediate humanitarian ceasefire" in Gaza. The wording was in the motion from the Labor Party, his own party for a long time, and the other parties' similar wording had to stand back. The Speaker is thus considered to have broken practice.
The politicians thought about the same thing but still sought division over the letter, writes Rigby. "A gloomy reflection" on British politics that also comes with a high price, she continues.
"Very little thought was given to the tensions that already existed in our society during this long and bloody war."
While Palestinians die and hostages suffer in the Gaza Strip, British politicians are doing what they do best: Arguing over words. That's what The Independent's John Rentoul writes. He writes that the mood in the chamber has not been as passionate since the climax of the Brexit debate.
In a satirical text in The Times, Madeline Grant writes that Hamas and Benjamin Netanyahu must have been holding their breath waiting for the exact wording the British politicians would support. She agrees with Beth Rigby: Everyone is a loser.

The Speaker hangs loose - apologizes profusely
The Speaker of the British Parliament may lose his job. About 50 parliamentarians are demanding Lindsay Hoyle's resignation, British media write.
Hoyle's critics say he has favored Labour, the party he previously represented as an MP for two decades. The Speaker agreed to hold a vote on an "immediate humanitarian ceasefire" in Gaza, which Labor had pushed for, despite warnings that it broke with long-standing practice.
In a furious defense speech filled with emotion, he apologizes.
- I thought I did the right thing and the best thing, and I regret it, and I apologize for how it turned out, says Hoyle while scattered "resign" cries are heard in the chamber.
