Biden to Florida residents: "Evacuate now, now, now"

US President Joe Biden is urging residents in the state of Florida to evacuate ahead of Hurricane Milton's arrival. This is reported by several media.

- Evacuate now, now, now. You should have already evacuated. It is a matter of life and death and it is not an exaggeration, says Biden during a press conference in the White House.

A hurricane warning has been issued for most of Florida's west coast. The hurricane is currently assessed as a category four threat on a five-point scale.

Horrors ahead of Hurricane Milton: "This is just terrible"

Hurricane Milton has the potential to be one of the most devastating on record for West and Central Florida, according to US weather officials. NBC News reports.

Milton is currently in the Gulf of Mexico. Wind forces fluctuate slightly and the hurricane was upgraded yesterday to a category five hurricane but was downgraded to a category four hurricane on Tuesday morning. It still poses a very big threat to Florida in particular, according to meteorologists.

The hurricane winds are expected to moderate further when Milton makes landfall, but meteorologists believe at the same time that the hurricane will grow significantly in scope and hit large parts of Florida hard.

The maximum wind speed has been measured at 250 kilometers per hour and meteorologists are horrified by Milton's strength.

- It's an incredible, incredible, incredible hurricane. This is just terrible, said John Morales, a hurricane expert at NBC 6 South Florida.

Conspiracy theories are rife in the US after Helene

With just weeks to go before the election, Hurricane Helene, the deadliest US since Katrina in 2005, tore through the Southeast, leaving massive devastation in its wake.

The aftermath, and the authorities' response, has given rise to a political battle in which disinformation and conspiracy theories flow freely. This is reported by a number of American media.

Claims that the crisis agency FEMA hindered the aid efforts of private individuals, and put money on illegal immigrants instead of those in need, have been spread by, among others, Donald Trump and Elon Musk.

More extreme conspiracy theories have also taken hold on social media. Including that the authorities control the weather and steered the hurricane towards areas with many Republican voters.

Authorities and aid workers have repeatedly appealed to Americans to stop spreading misinformation about the relief efforts.
