Over half believe they have had a worse economy under Trump

Over half of American voters believe they have been made worse off economically under President Donald Trump. This is shown by a new survey from the Financial Times.

According to the survey, a majority of voters also have greater confidence in the Democrats' economic policies than in the Republicans'.

Among voters who identify as Republicans, however, only one in four think they have been made worse off under Trump.

Alaska is normally a Republican stronghold, but in this fall's Senate elections the party risks losing. It would threaten the party's thin majority in the Senate, writes The Hill.

The polls are wide open, but it is clear that Republican Senator Dan Sullivan faces stiff opposition from Democrat Mary Peltola. As a two-term congressman and former state judge, Peltola is well-known. Her perceived independence and nonpartisan status also helps her.

“I don’t think anyone else in the state could have given Dan Sullivan a tougher fight,” says Alaska journalist James Brooks.

The stakes are especially high this year because Republicans can’t afford to lose many Senate seats without losing their majority. Today, the split is 53-47 in Republican favor.

This could indicate trouble for Republicans, who are defending a slim majority in the Senate and House of Representatives.
