Elon Musk has bought Twitter and fired half the workforce. 

 

It has raised a concern with Joe Biden.

Elon Musk's reported acquisition of Twitter for SEK 483 billion has provoked strong reactions in the outside world. 

 

 It has also raised concerns that misinformation online will increase, as Musk has promised to prioritize "freedom of expression" over "political correctness" - including by welcoming former president Donald Trump back to the platform. 

 

 Elon Musk's new acquisition has now caused US President Joe Biden to express his concerns. 

 

- Elon Musk bought a platform that spews lies around the world, Biden said at a charity event on Friday.

Thousands lose their jobs 

 

Since Musk took over the company this week, a lot of changes have taken place. 

 

During Friday, information leaked that Twitter is firing around half of its workforce of 7,500 people, which, among other things, was reported by AFP. 

 

During the night Swedish time, Elon Musk tweeted that the company "unfortunately has no choice". This is because the company loses 4 million dollars a day. 

 

The employees must have received an offer of three months' severance pay. "That's 50 percent more than what's required by law," twittrar Musk.

 

Will start taking payments 

 

Elon Musk also plans to take other cost-saving measures. 

 

Among other things, he intends to start charging for the blue tick next to account profiles, which shows that the account is not spam or satire. It is normally used by well-known people with many followers and has been free until now. 

 

But now he wants to introduce a premium service for 8 dollars a month, equivalent to 88 kroner. The information was leaked on Monday and since then it has sparked a firestorm of criticism.(rivit upp en kritikstorm)

 

“Twitter's current lords and peasants system of who has or doesn't have a blue tick is bullshit. Power to the people!” wrote Musk this week.

 

Ska börja ta betalt

Elon Musk har planerar även att ta till andra sparåtgärder.

Bland annat tänker han börja ta betalt för den blå bocken bredvid kontoprofilerna, som visar att kontot inte är spam eller satir. Den används normalt av välkända personer med många följare och har hittills varit gratis.

Men nu vill han införa en premiumtjänst för 8 dollar i månaden, motsvarande 88 kronor. Uppgiften läckte på måndagen och sedan dess har den rivit upp en kritikstorm.

”Twitters nuvarande system med herrar och bönder för den som har eller inte har en blå bock är skitsnack. Makten till folket!” skrev Musk i veckan.
