Biden turns 81: "He hopes no one else notices"
US President Joe Biden turns 81 on Monday. Many American media raise the day of significance in light of the fact that his old age has become a big issue ahead of next year's presidential election.
The Wall Street Journal editorial writes that it is not unlikely that Biden will celebrate by "eating cake in silence with his family and hoping no one else notices."
In an analysis for radio station NPR, Ron Elving writes that the number of candles in the cake is a problem for the president. He notes that even Democratic voters have begun to wonder if Biden is getting too old for the job.
The site Politico writes that the age issue is the most important for Biden's team right now. People in his closest circle believe that the birthday boy is cognitively capable of the presidency, but some of them admit at the same time that he sometimes appears fragile.
When Joe Biden was sworn in as president in 2021, he became the oldest person in office ever.

DeSantis judges the age of Trump and Biden
Donald Trump is not the same person he was when he entered the race for the presidency before the 2016 election, his Republican challenger, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, told CNN.
45-year-old DeSantis says he doubts that Trump would succeed in getting revenge on Joe Biden, and points to the old age of both politicians.
Being American president is not a job for someone "approaching 80," which has become clear during Biden's time in the White House, says DeSantis.
- Donald Trump is no exception.
Joe Biden is 81 and Trump is 77.
The latest tally from the statistics site FiverThirtyEight gives Trump a commanding lead in the Republican primary.
