Source: Israel's military has left al-Shifa hospital
The Israeli IDF forces have left Gaza's largest hospital al-Shifa after the raid that has been going on since last night, a journalist on the ground told AFP.
Sources on the ground tell the BBC, CNN and AFP that the forces entered after giving staff 30 minutes' notice. There they rounded up and interrogated hundreds of young men in the hospital's backyard, checking them for weapons and explosives.
According to the IDF, it was a "targeted operation against Hamas in a specific area" at the hospital. They also claim to have found weapons in the area.
On Wednesday afternoon, the White House said it had not given Israel the green light to carry out the raid on the hospital. The UN and WHO have expressed strong concern for the patients and healthcare workers, and WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has called the raid "completely unacceptable".

The World Health Organization (WHO) sharpens its tone against Israel and calls the raid on the al-Shifa hospital "totally unacceptable", reports Haaretz.
- Hospitals are not battlefields, says WHO director Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.
He adds that Gaza has lost around 40 percent of its care places since October 7. Earlier in the day, both the WHO and the UN expressed strong concern for the patients and nursing staff at the hospital.
