Panic in the tunnel after a crack - drilling is paused
Rescue attempts at the collapsed tunnel in India have had to be put on hold after a cracking sound was heard when they tried to drill their way to the 40 men who are trapped, reports TT. According to the news agency, panic broke out when rescue workers heard the crack.
The trapped men are stuck in a space about 200 meters from the tunnel opening. The landslide occurred just under a week ago.
The tunnel, which is just over four kilometers long, is being built in the state of Uttarakhand in northern India. The plan to get the trapped workers out is to drill a 90 centimeter wide hole through which they will then be able to get out.

The requirement after the crash: The company must act faster
Close to 100 workers have gathered at the tunnel construction site that collapsed in northern India to put pressure on the company responsible for the work, reports Reuters. They demand that the pace of the rescue work increases.
- We want the top brass from the company to come here, says Vishnu Sahu, who leads the protests at the site.
According to Sahu, the rescue team at the site is withholding information about how the work is progressing.
Around 40 workers have been stuck in the tunnel for almost a week.
