Analysis: Putin may be right that the outside world gets tired of Ukraine before he does 

Vladimir Putin may be right that the outside world will tire of Ukraine before he himself does, writes CNN's Stephen Collinson in an analysis.  

The White House warned this week that it will soon run out of money for Ukraine - while Republicans refuse to approve more funding unless Democrats simultaneously agree to strengthen the border with Mexico.  

"Anxiety bordering on panic" may be a justified feeling in the US administration, according to Collinson. 

To increase the likelihood that Congress will push for more money, the Biden administration is also trying to make the support an economic election issue, writes the BBC's Anthony Zurcher.  

The administration has said that some of the aid would go to producing weapons in American factories.

"As the election year approaches, the White House hopes that members of Congress will look for opportunities to showcase what they are doing to support the local economies in their constituencies," writes Zurcher.

Republicans' counterclaim for Ukraine aid: Tougher grip on the border with Mexico  

Republicans are ready to block aid money to Ukraine unless Democrats agree to tougher border rules with Mexico. The mood between the two parties in the United States was icy during a meeting on Tuesday, indicating that a deal is not in the offing, according to the New York Times.  

- We are about to abandon Ukraine. When Vladimir Putin marches into a NATO country, they will regret the day they decided to make politics out of Ukraine's security, Democratic Senator Christopher Murphy said of the Republicans. 

The Republicans, in turn, blame the Biden administration. 

"They want tens of billions of dollars to help our friends and allies abroad, but they are unwilling to do what is necessary to prevent a potential crisis at the border," said Senator John Cornyn. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy was supposed to speak at Tuesday's meeting, but he canceled at the last minute, with no official explanation.
