Argentina: Ready for New Talks on Falklands
The Argentine government said on Friday that it wants to resume bilateral talks with Britain on the Falklands, Reuters reports.
- Argentina once again expresses its willingness to resume bilateral negotiations with Britain that could allow for a peaceful and definitive solution to the sovereignty dispute, Argentine Foreign Minister Pablo Quirno said in a statement.
This comes after an internal Pentagon email was leaked, which shows that the United States could punish Britain for not helping in the Iran war by reviewing its claim to the Falklands.
Both Britain and Argentina claim the territory, which is located outside Argentina.
Britain hits back: "Trump is a bully"
Britain and veterans who fought in the Falklands War are hitting back at Pentagon reports that the US may review British claims to the islands. The territory's government said in a statement that it is and remains part of the UK, The Telegraph reports.
A spokesman for Prime Minister Keir Starmer said it "couldn't be clearer" that the Falklands are a British territory.
Veterans Simon Weston and Peter Robinson also spoke out, according to the newspaper.
- The islanders do not deserve to be anyone's political football, says Weston.
- Trump is a bully who uses US power to achieve his own goals and leave his mark on history, says Robinson.
