Greenland crisis  US threats
Trump rules out launching military action against Greenland

Donald Trump is no longer considering the “use of force” for American control over Greenland. This is what US Ambassador Ken Howery tells Greenland’s KNR, according to Danmarks Radio.

The ambassador says that the option is “not on the table” for the president.

– The future of Greenland is something that the Greenlanders themselves will decide.

Trump has previously not wanted to rule out a military action regarding the self-governing Danish island.

The future of the Democrats
Democrats’ autopsy after the election loss is released after criticism

The Democrats have released the entire “autopsy” after the 2024 election loss after months of keeping it secret, US media report.

The autopsy criticizes the Biden administration for not having done enough to lift Kamala Harris before Joe Biden dropped out as a presidential candidate. But the report also avoids several topics that have divided the party since the election. Among other things, Biden's decision to run for re-election, Harris taking over as a candidate without any nomination process, and the party's position on the war in Gaza.

The report was supposed to be published last spring. Party chairman Ken Martin announced in December that it would not be released at all, which led to top Democrats being furious and demanding his resignation.

Ken Martin has previously said that he thinks the party should focus on the upcoming midterm elections instead of looking back.

"I didn't want to create a distraction, but by not releasing the report, I created an even bigger distraction," he writes about the report on Substack.

NATO meeting in Helsingborg

Prime Minister: Sweden takes NATO membership seriously

Sweden takes its responsibility as a NATO member very seriously. This is what Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson (M) said at a press conference together with NATO chief Mark Rutte in Helsingborg, where the major foreign ministers' meeting is taking place these days.

- We are implementing the largest increase in defense spending since the end of the Cold War.

The Prime Minister also says that the Swedish government will reach the alliance's new five percent target by 2030. The target – which means 3.5 percent of GDP for defense – was set at a summit last year.

Rutte took the opportunity to praise Sweden's efforts as a NATO member at the press conference.

– Sweden's entry into NATO has made both Sweden and NATO stronger.

Drone alert in Europe
New drone alert in Latvia – NATO planes activated

The Latvian military is warning the population that at least one unknown drone has entered the country's airspace. In response, NATO aircraft have been activated to meet the possible threat.

It is still unclear where the drone came from, but Ukraine has intensified its drone attacks against Russia in recent months. Ukrainian military drones have landed in Finland, Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia several times.

Yesterday, the air raid warning sounded in Lithuania after a suspicious drone entered its airspace. The Latvian Defense Forces were also warned about the drone in Lithuania, but there is no information that it crossed the Latvian border.

Last week, the Latvian government fell after criticism of the handling of a drone alert in the spring.

Syria's new government
Syria is said to be a guest at the G7 meeting - Hormuz crisis on the agenda

Syria will participate as a guest nation at a G7 meeting for the first time, several sources told Reuters. The country's President Ahmed al-Sharaa is expected to attend a meeting in France in June together with leaders from France, the United States and Britain, among others.

According to a source in the Syrian government, the talks are expected to include Syria's role as a "potential strategic hub" when the Strait of Hormuz is blocked. The global economy has been greatly damaged by the fact that maritime traffic through the strait has been virtually non-existent since the war in Iran broke out.

After the long civil war, Syria and its new government now want to strengthen cooperation with the West and rebuild its economy with the help of the countries there.

Epstein affair British connections
Queen Elizabeth wanted Andrew as an envoy

The year before the former Prince Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor was appointed as British trade envoy in 2001, Queen Elizabeth expressed a strong desire for him to get the job.

This is evident in new documents about the appointment that the country's government has now released in connection with the new allegations that Andrew shared sensitive information with sex offender Jeffrey Epstein during his time in office.

"The Queen is very keen that the Duke of York should be given a prominent role in promoting the national interest," wrote the head of the British Chamber of Commerce in 2000.

Andrew, who has been stripped of all titles because of his relationship with Epstein, was trade envoy until 2011.
