Middle East Crisis Peace Talks

Iran's Leader Bans Uranium From Leaving Country – Negotiations Could Stall

Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei has ordered that the country's highly enriched uranium may not leave the country. Reuters reports, citing sources.

What will happen to the uranium is one of the crucial issues in the peace talks between Iran and the United States. During the negotiations, it has been proposed that the uranium be moved to a third country and stored there until further notice.

There have also been reports that the United States has planned a ground operation to take control of the uranium.

Israeli sources tell Reuters that Donald Trump has promised the Israeli government that the uranium will not remain in Iran and such a point is an American requirement in a possible peace agreement.

Iran: We are evaluating the latest proposal for a peace agreement

Tehran is currently working on evaluating the latest American proposal for a ceasefire. This is stated by Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei, according to Reuters.

The proposal has been developed with the help of Pakistani mediation. AFP reports that Pakistan's army chief Asim Munir will travel to Iran on Thursday for "talks and consultations" with the Iranian authorities.

The information comes the day after US President Donald Trump said that the US is ready to wait a few more days for a "proper answer" from Iran regarding the latest proposal for a peace agreement.
