NATO's future

Trump's turnaround: 5,000 soldiers sent to Poland

The US will send an additional 5,000 soldiers to Poland, Donald Trump writes in a post on his Truth Social platform.

The announcement comes just a week after the announcement that the deployment of around 4,000 American soldiers in the NATO country would be stopped.

Trump writes that the new decision is due to the "successful election" of Poland's Trump-friendly President Karol Nawrocki last year and the relationship between them.

Stoltenberg: NATO will not survive if the US leaves

NATO as we know it would not survive if the US leaves the alliance. This is what former NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg tells SVT's Agenda.

Therefore, it is very important that the US and Europe stick together, despite the great friction during Donald Trump's presidency, he believes, while warning against speculating too much.

“There must be no uncertainty in Moscow about our willingness to defend each other,” he says.

He does not believe that a European NATO or an EU army can replace the US role as a security guarantor.
