EU MEPs' phones attacked by spyware
Two phones belonging to members of the European Parliament have been attacked by spyware, reports Politico. The announcement comes after the site revealed in December that an internal review showed that the EU's cyber security does not live up to existing standards.
A member of the Security and Defense Subcommittee submitted his phone for a routine check on Tuesday and traces of spyware were discovered. The person in question tells Politico that it is unclear why the phone was attacked.
Parliament later announced that malware was found on a total of two phones. All members of the committee are therefore asked to check their units.
Cyber attacks and foreign influence are two issues that are high on the agenda in the EU ahead of this summer's parliamentary elections.

Analysis: von der Leyen is forced to go from dove to hawk
Ursula von der Leyen must strike a balance to get five more years as president of the European Commission, writes Politico in an analysis after the announcement that the German is running for re-election.
von der Leyen spent large parts of the past term on Europe's green offer. Now Europe is being shaken by peasant protests against the reform package at the same time as the far right is reaping successes in polls ahead of the summer elections.
The 65-year-old's solution is to transform herself from a green dove into a military hawk, writes the site and describes her campaign as a balancing act between "appealing to the conservative right and at the same time going against the extreme right".
Jorge Libereiro has similar thoughts in an analysis published on the Euronews site.
"Her political work, built at a frenetic pace in a chaotic time, will be arguments both for and against her candidacy."
