Analysis: The leak is harmless – but can damage trust

The content of the alleged leak of US intelligence concerning a planned Israeli attack on Iran probably does not do much harm. However, the question of how the documents ended up in an Israel-critical telegram channel is highly explosive, CNN's Matthew Chance writes in an analyzing text.

"Israeli media have even hinted at conspiratorial suspicions about the leak, suggesting it could have been a deliberate strategy by Washington".

In that case, the Biden administration would have leaked the documents in order to try to limit Israel's warfare, according to Chance.

ABC's Nick Mulroy tells the channel that mistrust between Israel and the United States may be the most serious consequence of the leak.

"Trust is a key component of the relationship and depending on how this is leaked, that trust can erode."

High-ranking Israeli commander killed in Gaza

Israeli colonel Eshan Daxa has been killed in fighting in northern Gaza. This is stated by the Israeli military according to ABC News.

Daxa commanded Israel's 401st Armored Brigade and is said to be the highest-ranking Israeli commander killed in the fighting. According to the Jerusalem Post, he died when his tank hit an explosive device near Jabalia.

"Israel has lost a bold commander, a brave officer and a man who contributed with all his energy to the security of the state," writes Defense Minister Yoav Gallant in a statement on X.

UN: Israeli military destroyed towers with bulldozers

Israeli military has named a bulldozer to destroy a guard tower and a fence at a UN post in Lebanon. This is stated by UNFIL, the UN peacekeeping forces in Lebanon, in a statement according to Reuters.

UNFIL has repeatedly accused Israel of attacking their positions in recent weeks. According to Israel, the attacks were accidental.
