The fire in Spain is now the country's largest ever

Neither the fire in Ávila nor the one in Madrid is under control. According to El Pais, the fires were encountered on Saturday. However, according to sources for the newspaper, this has happened before without the fires forming a single large fire.

The government representative for Madrid, Francisco Martín, urges the public to be careful, writes El Mundo.

- The fire is intense and its scale means that we must be prepared for unexpected developments.

Around 90,000 people have been evacuated in the areas, writes the BBC.

New threat to firefighters – 40-degree heat on the way

A heat wave that is expected to last for several days is heading towards Spain, where the country's firefighters are currently battling the largest forest fire in the country's history, writes The Guardian.

Spain's meteorological institute is warning of a heat wave that will begin on Wednesday and last until Sunday, if not longer. The fire risk could reach "extreme levels" which risks making extinguishing work more difficult.

According to Bloomberg, temperatures of around 40 degrees are expected in some places.
