After the poking – Fedorov soars in public opinion

With the decision to dismiss the popular Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov, President Volodymyr Zelensky may have created a political rival, reports the Kyiv Independent.

Fedorov's approval ratings rose from 35 to 65 percent in just a week after the dismissal, according to an opinion poll published last week. This puts him in the top spot, along with Zelensky, the president's chief of staff Kyrylo Budanov and former commander-in-chief Valery Zaluzhny, as one of the country's most popular politicians – and is being pointed out as a possible future presidential candidate.

“Zelensky gave Fedorov a big boost through his own actions and boosted his approval ratings,” Oleksei Haran, a professor of political science, told the newspaper.

The same poll also shows that only five percent of respondents supported Zelensky's decision to dismiss Fedorov, while 72 percent opposed it.

Report: All Senators Invited to Meet with Zelensky

All 100 U.S. senators have been invited to a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Tuesday, multiple sources tell The Hill.

The meeting is being held at the same time as a proposal for tougher sanctions against Russia is on the table in the Senate.

Zelensky, who is visiting the UK on Monday, will then travel to the US to meet with President Donald Trump and attend the funeral of Senator Lindsey Graham. Graham was one of the main authors behind the sanctions bill.

According to The Hill, Trump has given his support to the bill, which has broad support from both Republicans and Democrats.
US Consulate in Toronto Shot – Second Time This Year

Shots have been fired near the US Consulate in Toronto, reports CBC.

The shooting took place on Monday morning, local time, and is the second at the building this year.

No one was injured and no suspect has been arrested. Police are searching for a white van that is said to have left the scene after the shooting.

Brazil's ambassador recalled after Milei's remarks

On Sunday, Brazil's Foreign Ministry announced that the country is recalling its ambassador to Argentina, Politico reports.

The decision comes after Argentine President Javier Milei insulted Brazilian representatives during a visit to the country.

Milei attended a political event where Flávio Bolsonaro, son of former President Jair Bolsonaro, was named the presidential candidate for his father's party.

In his speech, Milei attacked Brazil's current President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, calling him a "thief," among other things. He also criticized Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes, calling him a "scumbag" after the judge denied Milei permission to visit Jair Bolsonaro, who is under house arrest.

"Milei went to Brazil screaming like a madman, while demanding to see a coup plotter who is in prison," writes former Argentine President Alberto Fernández on X. 

Healthcare is increasingly becoming a target of war – 2,500 attacks in 2025

Despite the fact that international law gives hospitals and healthcare workers special protection, they are recurring targets in the world’s conflicts.

Since 2021, the number of attacks on healthcare has more than doubled globally, The Guardian reports. Driven by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022 and Israel’s war in Gaza in 2023, the number peaked in 2024, but remains at historically high levels, according to the Safeguarding Health in Conflict Coalition.

Last year alone, the organization documented over 2,500 attacks in 33 countries.

Since 2021, the most healthcare workers have been killed in Palestine (811), followed by Lebanon (569), Ukraine (482), Sudan (230) and Myanmar (176).
