Germany to invest in defense companies

Germany plans to buy shares in startup companies operating in defense technology. This is reported by the Financial Times.

Chancellor Friedrich Merz's government announced on Wednesday that the investments will be made via a development bank. At the same time, tax incentives and simplified procedures for starting companies digitally will favor investments in the sector.

The investments should be seen as a way to favor innovation and boost the German economy.

- We are laying the foundation for the next generation of German market leaders, Economics Minister Katherina Reiche told the newspaper.

Saab receives billion-dollar order for Global Eye from the Middle East

The defense company Saab has received an order for two Global Eye aircraft from a country in the Middle East region. The order value amounts to 10.1 billion kronor and the plane will be delivered in 2030. This is stated in a press release.

“The growing interest in GlobalEye in the global market demonstrates that the system meets the high demands placed on air defense capabilities today,” says Micael Johansson, President and CEO of Saab in the press release.

Due to the nature of the industry and circumstances surrounding the customer and national security interests, no further information about the order or the customer will be made public, Saab states.
