Maha Vajiralongkorn (67), also known as Rama X, expects Buddhist strength and patience of his subjects in Thailand, especially during the corona crisis. For his part, he is practicing his own version of Buddhism – in a four-star hotel. His guiding principle is that there must be some action!
"Due to the COVID-19 situation, the Grand Hotel Sonnenbichl is currently unavailable for bookings,“ the hotel management has stated on the hotel’s website. This is not quite true, however. BILD has learned that the bizarre king is currently occupying the entire hotel. And how!
As a so-called long-stayer with diplomatic protection, Rama is enjoying his time at the hotel.
A former hotel employee even claimed that „hotel personnel are banned from the fourth floor“, the reason being that the king is allegedly partying heavily. A special highlight for the Thai enclave in this idyllic Bavarian setting: the "Pleasure Room“, which is reserved for the king and his harem.
Thailand expert Andrew MacGregor Marshall (49): "The entire floor is full of Thai antiquities and treasures from Bangkok. The concubines all receive a military rank and a special royal surname – Sirivajirabhakdi ('The beautiful one who is loyal to the king').“
BILD has seen the relevant palace documents. The women of the royal harem are allegedly organized as a military regiment. MacGregor Marshall: "The king calls them Special Air Service, like the British Army’s special forces unit. The harem has the same motto as the British SAS: Who Dares Wins.“
Respect and sexuality free of abuse – these are important rules in Buddhism, which Thai King Rama seems to have re-interpreted …
Andrew MacGregor Marshall is concerned: "The concubines are taking a big risk, hoping to turn a big profit. Some join him voluntarily and expect wealth for themselves and their families. Others have given in to the king’s pressure, afraid of the consequences if they were to refuse.“
Rama doesn’t mind the costs of luxury and extravaganza. Allegedly, he paid for his stay at the hotel for years in advance. The former hotel employee told BILD: "There were rumours that not only the upper floor but also the hotel’s safe filled up when the king arrived.“
The king is apparently at peace with himself. Generosity is a central Buddhist quality ('paramita'), after all. So for how much longer will Rama occupy the Grand Hotel’s fourth floor? And when will the Sonnenbichl be open to "regular“ guests again?
The hotel management declined to reply to BILD’s enquiry. The main thing is that everything is fine for the Thai King – how very Buddhist …
