To protest against the inhumane reign of Maha Vajiralongkorn, also known as Rama X., the activist group PixelHELPER wants to set an example with one of its famous guerrilla actions.
For the peaceful protest from the street in front of the Grand Hotel, a bright Nikon 300 mm lens, a flash and a few slides clamped in between were enough for the Berlin photographer Heinzelmann.
The light show was a message to the Thai ruler, who prefers to cycle half-naked through Upper Bavaria or pick strawberries instead of modestly living by the rules of Buddhism.
Not far from Neuschwanstein Castle built by the Bavarian fairytale king Ludwig II, Heinzelmann sent his message to the "criminal king" to stop torturing his people. "It would be justified for him to go back home to be with his people during the crisis."
Rama X sent bodyguards out of the hotel twice, and they drove past Heinzelmann glowering at him from their dark vans.
The police did not intervene this time, unlike during a projection five years onto the facade of the American embassy in Berlin.
"It has always been a bit exciting, you never know what to expect," Heinzelmann admitted, freezing in the icy mountain air. "But I am a very relaxed person and peaceful, and the action falls under the freedom of art and freedom of expression."
