Extreme weather in Europe
The death toll rises after the torrential rains – at least 22 dead
At least 22 people have been confirmed dead after this week's heavy downpours in Greece, Bulgaria and Turkey, The Guardian reports.
In central Greece, more than a year's worth of rain fell in one day. During a visit to the region of Thessaly on Friday, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis described the downpour as the worst weather event to hit the country.
The full extent of the disaster is still not mapped, Efthymios Lekkas, Greece's leading expert on natural disasters, said on state television.
- The harvest is not only ruined for this year. The thick layer of silt means that the soil is no longer fertile, he says of Thessaly – one of Greece's most important agricultural regions

The fugitive terror suspect has been spotted in London
The suspected British fugitive Daniel Khalife was seen in London on Wednesday morning, shortly after his escape from Wandsworth prison, British police confirmed according to Sky News.
A witness saw the 21-year-old running from a truck in a roundabout in the district, not far from the prison.
Khalife, who was in custody awaiting trial, is believed to have escaped by strapping himself under a food truck while wearing a chef's outfit.
The police are offering the equivalent of more than SEK 200,000 for information that leads to Khalife's arrest. So far they have received over 100 calls from the public.
