Palestine's prime minister resigns - opening for new rule

Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh has submitted his and the government's resignation to President Mahmoud Abbas, Palestinian media reported, according to Reuters.

Shtayyeh's government rules the West Bank, while Hamas controls Gaza.

Shtayyeh himself says he is resigning to enable "broad consensus" among Palestinians on how politics should be managed after Israel's war with Hamas in Gaza has ended.

According to the Jerusalem Post, the resignation may be part of forming a new "technocratic" Palestinian government. During the last week, information came that Hamas, which has long been in conflict with the government in the West Bank, agreed to plans for a technocratic government tasked with rebuilding Gaza after the war.

Israel presents plan for evacuation of Palestinians

Israel's military has drawn up a plan to "evacuate" civilians from Gaza. This is reported by AFP. The plan must have been presented to the war cabinet on the night of Monday.

On Sunday night, Benjamin Netanyahu said in an interview on CBS News that he would present an "action plan" to move the civilians in Rafah out of the city before an upcoming ground offensive.

- There is no contradiction between me and the United States about the need to evacuate the population, Netanyahu said.

1.4 million Palestinians are believed to be in Rafah.

Concerns in Israel: Netanyahu will stop an agreement

Negotiations on a cease-fire in Gaza are in full swing, and according to the mediator the United States, progress is being made. But concerns are growing in Israel that Netanyahu will end an agreement aimed at appeasing the far-right elements in his government, the Times of Israel reports.

In a conversation with the war cabinet, the prime minister is said to have made a new demand: all high-profile Palestinian prisoners released under a deal must be deported to Qatar, according to Channel 12.

In addition, Netanyahu is now also said to demand that Hamas hand over a list of the hostages who are still alive.

- Netanyahu is not really interested in an agreement. He is trying to stall the negotiations and reveals demands at the last minute, says a government source.
