Elections in Malta

Social Democrats aim for fourth consecutive victory in Malta

It looks like it will be the fourth time in a row for the Social Democratic Party when Malta goes to the polls today.

Opinion polls give incumbent Prime Minister Robert Abela a stable majority, just like in 2013, 2017 and 2022. It would be the first time that one and the same party has formed a government in Malta four times in a row.

In the latest poll from Malta Today, the social democratic PL gets 50.6 percent while the nationalist party PN gets 44.2 percent. The other parties get just over five percent combined.

Public service in Malta broke the "silent day"

Malta's public service company has received criticism after broadcasting a segment in which a sitting minister praised the government's policies on Friday evening, writes the Times of Malta. In Malta, all political reporting is banned the day before the elections, which begin today.

The opposition has filed a complaint with the Broadcasting Authority, which is criticizing the broadcast. The public service broadcaster claims that the program was broadcast due to a technical error and that measures have been taken to prevent a repeat.
