US: Productive talks between Israel and Lebanon
Talks between military representatives from Israel and Lebanon in the United States have been “productive,” says US Deputy Secretary of Defense Elbridge Colby.
But despite the current ceasefire, there are reports of deadly Israeli attacks on Lebanon.
Eleven people, including a rescue worker, were killed in Israeli attacks on southern Lebanon on Friday, Lebanon’s Health Ministry said. Eight more people were reportedly injured in the attacks, which the country describes as “a clear violation of humanitarian law.”
“In light of the fact that the terrorist party Hezbollah is violating the ceasefire, the IDF is forced to act forcefully against them. The army does not intend to harm you,” writes military spokesman Avichay Adraee on X.
A formal ceasefire has been in place between Israel and Lebanon since mid-April, but the fighting is between Israel and the Shiite militia Hezbollah.
“We have had productive military-to-military talks that will inform the political track led by the State Department next week,” Deputy Defense Secretary Elbridge Colby wrote on X.
Earlier in the day, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that the country’s military had crossed the Litani River, which had previously been an informal border in southern Lebanon for Israeli presence.
Large areas south of the river are under Israeli control.

“The political track”
On Friday evening, Swedish time, talks between military representatives from Israel and Lebanon concluded. Nothing concrete has yet been known from the talks, which Hezbollah is not a part of, but according to the US they have been positive.“We have had productive military-to-military talks that will inform the political track led by the State Department next week,” Deputy Defense Secretary Elbridge Colby wrote on X.
