Lebanon: “Scorched Earth” Will Not Help Israel

Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam condemned what he called a “dangerous and unprecedented escalation” by Israel in southern Lebanon, AFP reports.

Salam called for an immediate ceasefire, saying that “scorched earth tactics” would not ensure Israel’s future security. Salam was indirectly referring to Israel’s destruction of Lebanese infrastructure during the bombing.

Eleven people, including a rescue worker, were killed in attacks on southern Lebanon on Friday.

Israel warns of attacks on seven new villages

Israel is urging residents of seven more Lebanese villages to leave their homes in anticipation of imminent attacks, AFP reports.

According to a spokesman for the Israeli military, it is forced to act against Hezbollah in the villages in question, which it believes are violating the current ceasefire.

According to Le Orient Today's eyewitness accounts, Israeli tanks have been advancing in southern Lebanon since Friday. Both Hezbollah and Israel have repeatedly violated the ceasefire.

Israel Bombs Lebanon Again During Peace Talks

Representatives from Israel and Lebanon have held "productive" peace talks in the United States, according to US Deputy Defense Secretary Elbridge Colby. The talks ended on Friday evening, but it is still unclear what was said.

At the same time, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says that his country's soldiers have moved even deeper into Lebanese territory to strike Hezbollah targets. The Israeli military also continues to attack Lebanon from the air.

There has been a formal ceasefire in Lebanon since April, but both Israel and Hezbollah accuse each other of violating it.
