The earthquake in Afghanistan
Student: "Everything started shaking - absolutely terrible"
Hundreds have died and at least 1,000 people have been injured after today's heavy landslide in Herat province in Afghanistan. Student Idrees Arsala says that he was in a lesson when everything suddenly started shaking.
- It was absolutely terrible, I have never been so afraid, he tells AFP.
The news agency writes that people have gathered in the streets as they are afraid that their homes will collapse. Local authorities state that parts of Herat are completely destroyed.
- I can't get in touch with my family, we have no reception and I'm so worried and scared, says Bashir Ahmad, who is one of those gathered on the street.
The UN estimates that at least 320 people have died. Local authorities have so far confirmed 120 deaths, but say the death toll is expected to rise.
