Wreck has been inspected - good access to physical evidence
Japan's transport authority on Wednesday inspected the wreckage of the passenger plane that caught fire after colliding with a small coast guard plane on landing.
It is still unclear what caused yesterday's collision at Haneda Airport in Tokyo. Experts have said that it is too early to pinpoint a cause but that a mix of factors is usually behind most incidents. AFP states that professional negligence is one of the reasons being investigated.
The good access to physical evidence, radar data, testimonies and films is expected to facilitate the investigation.
According to Japan Today, French and British authorities are to participate in the investigation because it is in those countries that the passenger plane and the Rolls-Royce engines were manufactured.

The earthquake in Japan
62 dead after the earthquake - concern about aftershocks and rain
62 people have been confirmed dead after the earthquake in Japan on New Year's Day, writes NHK. The rescue operation in the hard-hit Ishikawa prefecture is still ongoing.
The authorities fear that there are people left under the racial masses. Bad weather is already making it difficult to find more survivors, and now more rain and lower temperatures are expected. This morning there was also a strong aftershock in the area and experts warn that more may occur.
AP writes that the first 72 hours are critical for the rescue effort because the prospect of finding survivors decreases drastically after three days.

The bribery charge against Menendez
New indictment against Menendez - allegedly received gifts from Qatar
US Democratic Senator Bob Menendez is accused of new corruption crimes. This time the plan is about connections to Qatar.
Federal prosecutors claim that the politician has, among other things, received tickets to racing events from the country, according to CNN.
The crimes for which Menendez is now charged allegedly continued into 2023, which is a year longer than the previous indictment indicated.
The new charges also relate to Menendez allegedly helping real estate profiler Fred Daibes siphon off millions of dollars from a fund with ties to Qatar. In exchange, Daibes allegedly made payments to the senator.
Bob Menendez and his wife were indicted last fall for accepting multimillion-dollar gifts from Egypt in exchange for favorable arms deals.
