Iran has launched a new satellite – the US warns

Iran has launched a new research satellite into space on Saturday, writes Reuters and refers to state-controlled media. It is the second time this year that an Iranian satellite has been launched.

The US has previously claimed that the technology used in the satellite launch also enables the use of long-range weapons. Iranian authorities deny the delay is a cover for developing ballistic missiles.

Western countries have recently accused Iran of supplying ballistic missiles to Russia in the war in Ukraine. Iran has also denied that.

German ships off Taiwan stir up feelings in China

The Chinese military accuses Germany of raising tensions in the region after two German warships passed through the Taiwan Strait, Reuters reports.

It was last Friday that German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius stated that the ships had passed the strait in the direction of the Philippines.

China, which sees self-governing Taiwan as part of its territory, claims it is "sending the wrong signals". The military states that the German ships were monitored and warned.

206 Ukrainian and Russian prisoners released in exchange

Russia and Ukraine have carried out a major prisoner exchange, releasing 103 prisoners each, the Russian Defense Ministry said, according to the Interfax news agency.

The Russian prisoners are said to have been captured in Kursk, the ministry says according to Reuters.

The exchange takes place following an agreement brokered by the United Arab Emirates. Ukraine has not yet commented on the data.
