The new election in France
France's new budget – austerity and tax for the rich

The government in France has now presented a budget. It aims to patch up the big wound in the state finances with the equivalent of more than SEK 600 billion, and at the same time be able to pass through parliament.

Lower spending will account for two-thirds of the reduced deficit next year – the rest will be collected through higher taxes on businesses, high-income earners and energy, writes Bloomberg.

- The French economy is holding up, but our national debt is enormous. It would be cynical and fatal not to admit it, says the recently appointed Finance Minister Antoine Armand.

Trump promises lower taxes for Americans abroad

Presidential candidate Donald Trump says he supports lower taxes for Americans living abroad, seen as a move to attract an overlooked constituency. The WSJ writes.

"Americans living abroad, your voice is more important than ever," Trump said in a statement.

The American system where citizens are taxed on their total income regardless of where they earned the money is unique in the world. This applies to taxes on income, property and gifts.

However, it is unclear whether or how the Republican Party would present a proposal for a changed tax in Congress, the newspaper writes.

Crisis Northvolt

Details: Northvolt has secured 1.7 billion

Northvolt has secured EUR 150 million, corresponding to approximately SEK 1.7 billion, in verbal agreements. Sources told Bloomberg.

The sum is said to be part of a new financing of just over SEK 2.2 billion that the struggling battery manufacturer held talks with lenders about this week, as Reuters previously reported.

The amount that is now said to be on the table is clearly lower than the original SEK 15 billion that Northvolt wanted in a new issue. The sum was later halved to 7.5 billion, according to DI.

Northvolt's plant in the USA is being sold at an online auction

Northvolt's state-of-the-art facility in Silicon Valley is being sold in parts via online auctions in the US this fall. A first round brought in around SEK 4 million two weeks ago, writes Dagens Nyheter.

- The auctions attract participants from all over the world, says the auction company's marketing director Manuel Padilla to Affärsvärlden.

The next round will be held next week and is described by the auction firm as a unique opportunity to purchase a 150,000 square meter building with top-of-the-line equipment for manufacturing and developing batteries.

The plant was operated by the subsidiary Cuberg. It was inaugurated in February but closed in August due to Northvolt's cost crisis.
