The Middle East crisis

The Middle East crisis • Israel-Iran
Task: Netanyahu to get green light for revenge attack

Israel's security cabinet is meeting Thursday night to discuss a response to last week's drone attack by Iran, sources told the New York Times. During the meeting, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant are expected to get the go-ahead to carry out a retaliatory attack.

It is not clear what options are on the table. Among others, the White House has expressed concern that a harsh response from Israel will result in a major regional war.

When Biden was asked on Thursday whether or not he had received any information about a retaliatory attack from Netanyahu, he jokingly replied, according to Haaretz:

- He comes over to help with the storm.

Israel has issued new evacuation orders almost daily since the offensive against Hezbollah began and now includes over 100 villages and communities in the southern parts of the country.

The 39-year-old doctor Sahar Ali has sought shelter in a night club that has opened up to refugees.

- There is no help from the state, she says.

At least one million inhabitants have been forced to flee and the newspaper writes that the country is having great difficulty managing the humanitarian situation, in the wake of, among other things, the economic crisis, corruption and long-term political uncertainty.
