"The worst natural disaster in Slovenia's history"
Thursday's and Friday's downpours in Slovenia were the worst natural disaster in the country's history, says Prime Minister Robert Golob, according to AP. The storm caused damage equivalent to almost SEK 6.5 billion.
At least three people have been confirmed dead after a month's worth of rain fell in one day, causing widespread flooding and landslides. Roads, bridges and hundreds of buildings collapsed.
The army has been called in to help residents in northern parts of the country, cut off from the outside world by the bodies of water.
Pictures show how whole villages were put under water. Thousands of people have been forced to evacuate their homes, many with the help of helicopters and firefighters in boats.

A month of rain in one day in Slovenia – three dead
Three people have been killed in floods and landslides after a month's worth of rain fell in one day in northeastern and central Slovenia, reports AFP.
Warning sirens sounded in the capital Ljubljana, in Maribor and in Celje after the country's environment ministry issued the highest possible weather warning.
Two of the dead were foreign tourists who were found in a mountainous area, according to authorities.
The highway between Ljubljana and the northern parts of the country had to be closed due to floods that destroyed several bridges and houses. Around 16,000 households lost power.
