Record numbers of migrants cross dangerous jungle path
So far this year, 248,901 migrants have crossed the Darién Gap, the dangerous jungle path between Colombia and Panama, according to Panamanian authorities. That's about the same number, if not more, that passed in the whole of last year.
The Darién Gap is a hard-to-reach region covered in rainforest, swamps and mountains. In addition to the terrain being very difficult, many migrants, but also some tourists, become victims of crime when they pass.
Most migrants who pass through the area come from Venezuela. People from Asia and Africa also travel to South America and make it to the Darién Gap in the hope of reaching the United States.

Protests from all camps against floating asylum seekers
A floating accommodation will soon be ready to house 500 asylum seekers in the port of Portland, UK, British media reports.
For that, the government is criticized from all sides:
According to the BBC, the local population is protesting against the accommodation being placed there. Asylum rights activists call the accommodation a floating prison and criticize the overcrowding and fire safety at the accommodation and the government's restrictive refugee policy, according to TT.
The opposition Labor party accuses the government of scoring cheap political points without doing anything about the migration crisis, according to the Daily Mirror.
The government has promised to reduce the number of asylum seekers through deterrent measures - almost 15,000 people have crossed the English Channel so far this year. In addition to several barges, asylum seekers must be placed in military facilities and in giant tents. The plan to house them in asylum centers in Rwanda has been reprimanded by the government in court.
