Thailand's ex-leader postpones his return
Thailand's former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra is postponing his return to Thailand from his self-exile, writes Al Jazeera. The reason is supposed to be a doctor's visit, but he writes that he hopes to be able to return to the country within two weeks, on X, formerly known as Twitter.
The statement comes as Thailand struggles to overcome the political deadlock that has prevailed since elections in May.
The 74-year-old billionaire, who was ousted in a military coup in 2006, has long said he wanted to return home - but faces several criminal charges he claims are politically motivated.
He was convicted during his time abroad in four criminal cases, one of which has been time-barred.
He has mostly lived in Dubai during his exile.
