The EU promise: Putin must be held responsible for Navalny's death
Russian President Vladimir Putin and his government will be held responsible for the death of Alexei Navalny, announced EU foreign affairs chief Josep Borrell according to AFP.
In a statement on X, Borrell writes that he met Navalny's wife Yulia Navalnaya and that he then expressed the union's "deepest condolences".
“As Julia said, Putin is not Russia. Russia is not Putin. We will continue to support Russian civil society and independent media”.
Navalny, in turn, has announced that she wants the EU to impose more sanctions on people who enable the regime's work. Borrell states that the EU's global sanctions system should be renamed after Navalny so that his name can "live on".

Trump breaks silence on Navalny - does not mention Putin
Donald Trump breaks the silence surrounding Alexei Navalny's death with a cryptic message on social media, Reuters reports.
"Alexei Navalny's sudden death has made me more and more aware of what is happening in our country," Trump writes and continues:
"Open borders, rigged elections and grossly unfair court decisions are destroying America".
In his post, he does not mention anything about Russian President Vladimir Putin and his possible guilt in Navalny's death. US President Joe Biden and top politicians from both the Democrats and the Republicans have condemned Putin after what happened.
During Trump's time in the White House, he was criticized for not marking against Putin. Rather, he occasionally expressed admiration for the Russian leader.
