Young voters hold the power – attracted by cat videos
Just over half of Indonesia's voters are under 40 and a third are 30 or younger. It is something that was reflected in the candidates' campaigns before Wednesday's election, AP writes.
Election researcher Noory Okthariza tells The Guardian that there is no clear favorite among the younger groups.
- That's why the candidates try to reach out to these voters through the way they talk, the way they behave, the way they dress and the way they use social media like Tiktok.
According to the British newspaper, the candidates have tried to gather votes by handing out concert tickets and creating viral posts using cats and dancing.

The US and China are watching: Will it be like Duterte?
Can Indonesia continue to pursue a policy that involves good relations with both the US and China? AP raises that question ahead of Wednesday's big election day.
The news agency writes that under outgoing President Joko Widodo, the country has neither criticized nor attached itself to any particular party in a region where the American-Chinese "rivalry" is otherwise palpable.
Trade with China has increased and there is now strong defense cooperation with the United States, a foreign policy line that will continue if the favorite and Minister of Defense Prabowo Subianto is victorious.
But, writes the news agency, both China and the United States have experienced how quickly things can change with new Southeast Asian leaders. When Rodrigo Duterte became Philippine president, it meant a rapprochement with China and loud criticism of the United States.
