Cape Town stinks - livestock ships singled out
Cape Town has been plagued by an intense stench in recent days, the BBC reports. Local authorities state that it is a cargo ship loaded with animals that is behind the disturbing smell.
- This smell is a sign of the terrible conditions the animals are forced to endure, after having already spent two and a half weeks on board, among excrement and ammonia, says a representative of an organization that works to combat animal cruelty.
The ship is said to be on its way from Brazil to Kuwait and has been in the port of Cape Town since Sunday.

19,000 animals are on board: "Exposed to this daily"
19,000 animals are on board the freighter that is spreading an intense stench across Cape Town, reports News 24. Conditions are deplorable, according to veterinary consultant Bryce Marock.
- The stench on board is unimaginable, yet the animals are exposed to this every day.
The ship, which is on its way from Brazil to Iraq, docked in the port of Cape Town on Sunday. Several residents the BBC spoke to say the smell is unbearable.
- It ruined my day even though I was indoors, says a woman to the British news channel.
